My Indian Runner Duck has been a regular layer of an egg a day, usually
layng them in the late evening/early morning. I picked the usual egg up
yesterday morning, then came home in the afternoon to find another egg
deposited on the lawn. This was obviously 'mal-formed' as it was soft
(but not easy to break), as well as being a pale white rather than blue
colour.
Why does this happen?
Could she have had a fright that caused her to lay early?
Other causes?
Thanks
Alan.

A shell-less egg is one of those "just happens" things - it can be a stress
reaction from disturbance, from a transitory illness or disease challenge, a
glitch in the system, short term lack of nutrition or simply because she has
been so productive, age as the system falters, time of year as the eclipse
is imminent,
Usually its a temporary blip in proceedings.
