The following web site shows how GPS,
the navigation system that was invented by Einstein,
has been used to revolutionize art.

http://www.theworldismycanvas.com/

No doubt the Einstein Cult will be very pleased to add
art to the many wonders that Einstein gave to the world.

Wonders like rubber clocks and rulers,
that let you warp through space and time travel,
dump radioactive waste in worm holes, etc.

Take a look at the web site,
and see what Einstein has wrought.

Does this mean that you don't like GPS art Sammy?

I made that post especially to call your attention to
the newly emerging field of GPS art,

as I figured that you could add the URL to your EDU web site,
and attract more visitors.

Just trying to help you buddy.

Your pal,

More than fifteen years ago I worked with a nephew on a GPS enabled
art project. Potter would be surprised at the thousand of uses
make of GPS technology. Potter still froths at his mouth... and
blusters with respect to the relativistic corrections allowing
the accuracy that global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) enjoy.

Sammy raises a good point!

In order to establish a correlation between an X and a Y,
all precise systems,
including the GPS System
compensate for the A, B, C's that tend to obscure the X-Y relationship.

For example,
the oscillators in the GPS System are affected by
various physical properties, including:

distance - Hubble Effect
velocity - Doppler Effect
acceleration - Galileo Effect
jerk - Wormley Effect
temperature - temperature effect
etc.

And of course, there are tick accumulators
on each satellite, as well in GPS receivers,
that must be synchronized with the master clock
to obtain precision, and as any variation
in the tick generators ( Oscillators)
in the satellites and GPS receivers will
cause their tick accumulators to lose sync
with the master clock,
it is necessary for signals to be sent
to advise all slave parties as to the
system time, the reading of the master tick accumulator,
the master system clock.

I might point out that there is only ONE master clock,
and that all other tick accumulators are slaves,
and that any difference between any slave and the ONE master clock
must be attributed to some artifact, as noted above.

As Sammy suggests,
what system engineers do
is to lump all the static affects together and
cancel them out with a single constant,
and when there are variable affects,
such as relative velocity, temperature,
atmospheric conditions, etc.
provisions must be made to adjust for them.

I might point out that thanks to Galileo
who discovered over three hundred years ago,
that acceleration affects the frequency ( Tick rate )
of oscillators,

and thanks to Newton
who used this information to compute the shape of the Earth,
tides, and the affects of the Moon on the Earth and Earth tides,

today man understands how to compensate
orbiting oscillators for variations in the acceleration
they experience.

And of course, thanks to Doppler and to Hubble,
man knows how to compensate for the affects of
variations in velocity and distance on oscillators.

I might point out to Sammy,
that the various effects are used to estimate
how far stars are from the Earth,
their relative velocities, and possible local acceleration (Gravity)
by comparing the frequencies of the
natural atomic oscillators that generate radiation on the stars,
to the frequencies of like natural atomic oscillators
right here on the Earth.

I was pleased to see that Sammy is aware that
the GPS System can be useful in the arts,
and I will be looking forward to
seeing examples his work in this area
on his EDU web site.

If anyone else would like to see how
the GPS System can be used to generate art,
take a look at the following web site.
