You AGW wackos aren't fooling the public!

April 24, 2008

http://blogs.news.com.au/heraldsun/andrewbolt/index.php/heraldsun/comments/reason_wins_at_the_global_warming_bookshelf/

There's a market for reason on global warming - at least at the
bookstore.

Lubos Motl ranks the climate books selling best at Amazon, from realist
(usually dismissed as "sceptical") to out and out Flummery:

1. Roy Spencer, realist (#116)

2. Bjorn Lomborg, realist (#959)

3. Fred Singer, realist (#1324)

4. Brian Fagan, neutral (#6156), a book about the little ice age

5. James Lovelock, Gaia priest (#8706)

6. Wallace Broeckner, alarmist (#9202)

7. Mark Lynas, alarmist loon (#10308)

8.Patrick Michaels, realist (#12027)

9. Tim Flannery, alarmist loon (#16135)

10. Henrik Svensmark, realist (#16309)

11. Dennis Avery and Fred Singer, realists (#19266)

Question: If there's at least a reader appetite for the other side of
the global warming scare story, why does the media insist on feeding the
public only a diet of the less-popular alarmism?

"If scientists say they are 100% sure, or that they are absolutely
certain about the cause and effect and ignore variables which might show
that they could be wrong, they are practicing junk science. Junk science
happens when scientists believe something based on just some of what
they see."

Begs the questions: "Does the media insist on feeding the public
climate alarmism"; "Is what the questioner puts under 'climate
alarmism' indeed less popular?"

After all, what Blot claims is that the list shows that "there is at
least a reader appetite for the ther side of the global warming scare
story" (sic) then goes straight to the claim that such stories are
'less popular'.

If Blot wasn't in the industry-driven specail pleading business, and
interested in practising a little of the 'skepticism' to which he pays
lip service he'd ask whether data about amazon sales was a
sufficiently reliable guide to allow relative scaling of the appeal or
acceptability of AGW-denier claims. Perhaps the cohort of people who
buy books on climate change feel they've got the gist of the consensus
position and want to see if there is any contrary argument that stands
up? That is not the same as thinking that the contrary opinion is
plausible -- merely that those interested in the subject aren't
brainwashed as denier blogsites imply, but capable of making up their
own minds.

I find it amusing that someone like Blot, who is clearly part of 'the
media' puts the entire category into a box as if it were one
homogenous thing with one mind and one purpose. That's really just a
thinly disguised conspiracy thesis. And yet, as is clear from the
posts in this place made by the denier lobby, conspiracy is never far
from their minds. According to them, the genesis and roll out of the
AGW hypothesis can be explained by the alliance between socialists,
wealthy elites, the media, liberals, greenies, nihilists, those
interested in high taxation, social engineers, the Club of Rome and
the world's scientists and governments. The same people who write off
those who say that the media is run by Zionists as hopelessly
befuddled, pointing out to the obvious heterogeneity in what
constitutes "the media", and who defended the weakening of media
content rules in countries like Australia, in part on the basis that
new forms of media make diversity inescapable, thow that analysis out
the window in pursuit of just the same kind of populist nuttery. One
might well wonder -- if "the media" 'is feeding people' stuff that
isn't popular, why is Blot 'feeding people' the stuff he does? He
ought to be able to say who forces him to say what he does.

Blot, as we have seen, is a cowardly hypocrite who cannot defend his
opinions on his own blogsite and here above revealed as no more than a
moronic mouth for hire by anyone who smells bad.

Begs the questions: "Does the media insist on feeding the public
climate alarmism";
****************************************

Oh yes it does!
Just check out, for example, the Australian ABC.

Have you checked out the ABC?

hand or not!

OK Bonzo ... insert the following data below, ideally in a table:

a) the frequency with which the words "climate change" or similar
appear

i) in print or in audio as a proportion of stories
ii) in print or in audio as a proportion of words uttered

Then supply data on other popular topics like 'interest rates' or
'petrol prices' and see who this compares.

Make sure you explain how this compares with everything else one can
call "the media"

You say you like "the facts" and are a "skeptic" (you keep quoting
people who like it) so you really need to do this to be consistent..

"Is what the questioner puts under 'climate

***********************************

It is indeed less popular.
You are deluded if you think a significant portion of the
population is falling for your socialist-inspired AGW crap!

Again, you need to produce some evidence that this is indeed the case.
Show me the data and the modelling you use so that we can assess the
integrity of the claim. I remain, as ever, skeptical.

Says someone who in this post spoke of 'socialist-inspired AGW-crap'
and who refuses to engage with the argument I put, because he lacks
the intllect to do so.

Doesn't Capitalism provide the public with what they want?

And why is the KKKonservative Capatalist media distributing what you claim
is "climate alarmism"?

There must be a market for it. And that is contrary to your initial
claim.
