Hello,
I am looking for a lossless data compression scheme for VLF
systems..I found PPM(Prediction by Partial Match) as an alternative
but am unable to understand the practical side of it... Can anybody
help me please in this regard?
Thanks and Regards,
Sonali |

Hi,
I'm not sure of what you mean by 'understand the practical side of
it', but since nobody's answering I'll try to give some help with some
references about PPM. Now the first article about it should be
J.G. Cleary, I.H. Witten, Data Compression Using Adaptive Coding and
Partial String Matching
many improvements have been done in
D. Shkarin, PPM: One step to practicality
surely not the last work, but probably a milestone in development of
PPM. Finally you can find and implementation of PPMD (a fast PPM
implementation by Shkarin) in the open source 7-zip program (http://
www.7-zip.org/).
Hope this helped !
