Saw this on another list I'm on, and thought it might be of interest to
members of this newsgroup.
I know nothing about the position beyond the information I'm forwarding.
However, I'm betting the position is with Lexmark, the printer company
that's an IBM spinoff.

Our client, a global technology company, is seeking an Optical Engineer
to join their organization.
The engineer will be responsible for the optical system
performance/quality of scanners in the company's business class
all-in-one / multi-function products.
The Optical Engineer designs and carries out research to discover and
create new technologies, materials, and phenomena. Through investigation
or experimentation, examines, evaluates, and tests discoveries. Proves,
applies and interprets scientific or engineering laws and theories.
Identifies application of research for technologies or products and
develops new solutions for the organization and its customers. Creates
prototypes to demonstrate results. Presents results of research to
appropriate scientific and business audiences, and may participate in
commercialization of results.
The position will also include research of scanning technologies.
Requirements:
BS in Engineering or related subject .
Minimum 5 years directly related experience.
Highly desired experience includes: scanner component/optics knowledge
such as lenses, sensors (cis/ccd), lamps, afe's; image processing
algorithms; knowledge of scan quality metrics; familiarity with scanner
test/measurement instrumentation; and software programming.
Travel may be expected to support manufacturing activities and to work
with vendors on component selection and component issues
