Apparently so. If true, it means most of us are getting low doses of
antibiotics from our dinner table.
Mellon M, Fondriest S, for the Union of Concerned Scientists. Hogging
it: estimates of animal abuse in livestock. Nucleus 2001;23: 1 -3.
In 2005, more deaths in the USA were caused by MRSA infections than
were killed by AIDS:
"According to a study published October 2007 in the Journal of the
American Medical Association (JAMA), there were close to 100,000 cases
of invasive methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA)
infections in the United States in 2005, which lead to more than
18,600 deaths.
To put that number into perspective, HIV/AIDS killed 17,000 people
that year." (Mercola.com)
If one factors in how antibiotics promote yeast overgrowth, then the
illness and death from antibiotics is sharply higher than the 18,600
deaths reported by JAMA. Yeast overgrowth promotes weight gain, sinus
problems (Mayo Clinic reported 96% of all chronic sinus problems are
due to yeast/fungus), and is associated with both diabetes and cancer.
Some grocery stores are offering meat that is free of antibiotics. It
costs more...or does it? Maybe it costs more to eat food from animals
subjected to antibiotics after medical and pharmaceutical co-pays are
added into the resulting illnesses you experience due to the daily low-
level antibiotics you're ingesting. |
