and they are us:
http://www.seismosoc.org/publications/SRL/SRL_79/srl_79-2_hs.html

The article is a brief glimpse of an interesting & pivotal chapter in
seismology history, by SSA policy freely available even to non-
members. And thanks to SSA Web guru Bo the article includes a link to
a fun site, G.O. Fizzicle Pogo in action. Enjoy!

Also, while as a matter of SEH policy I avoid talking about articles/
books that aren't freely available, amazon.com has dropped the price
of one of my books ("After the Earth Quakes") to $8 and change. I
suspect this means the book has been, or soon will be, remaindered,
which means it may be coming soon to a $1 bin near you. Not a bad
buy at $8, though: quality hard cover, lots of illustrations, some
interesting stuff about earthquakes. I've bought a bunch myself--nice
to be able to give them away without breaking the bank. (Surprising
what an expensive proposition it can be, to write a book!)

I hope you aren't picking up any new "french-australian" spellings :-)

What happened to a proposed repeat of IGY on its 50th
anniversary? I think polar scientisits have a small-scale
program, but it doesnt seem to have the cache of the
previous one.

Still £23.99 on Amazon UK, that's about $48.00. A very good buy at
$8!! Worth paying shipping charges for.

I saw Sue's books at Blackwells in London and the Cambridge University
bookstore.
Both have good earth science collections.

Hi Susan,

Thanks for the update on your book and the link.

Yes, publishing is expensive. The very talented author/publisher
Bette Daoust
has agreed to work with me on my first book and this is a very
interesting
and exciting process.

Hope you are well and thriiving....

Hmmm...you have some office software that needs an instruction

This thread isn't about you, Petra, but here you are trying to steal
the spotlight from Susan by promoting your own as-yet-unwritten book
and the ghostwriter who is going to write it for you. (I don't care if
her name if on the cover; we all know what her function will be.) You
just can't pass up an opportunity to toot your own horn, can you?

If you have a reputable publisher, your book should cost you nothing.
Random House still supplies me with all the copies of "Rocket City" I
ask for, a case at a time. It shouldn't be expensive to write a book.
But neither is this thread about me.

Congratulations, Susan. By all means, snap up as many of those $8.00
copies as you can.
