The Nevada State Board of Nursing reports that five certified nurse
anesthetists voluntarily surrendered their licenses Wednesday pending the
resolution of an investigation into dangerous and irresponsible injection
practices at Endoscopy Center of Nevada, which led to the largest hepatitis
C scare in the nation.

Health officials say 40,000 people are at risk of hepatitis B, C and HIV
because nurses used syringes more than once when administering anesthetic to
individual patients, which contaminated medicine vials. Then, the nurses
used the vials, which were intended for single use, on multiple patients,
passing on infection.

Six people have been infected with hepatitis C because of the injections.
Nurses told health officials they were ordered to reuse syringes and
single-dose medicine vials by their boss, Dr. Dipak Desai, one of Nevada's
most powerful and politically connected physicians. Desai allegedly asked
them to perform the dangerous procedures in order to save money, health
officials were told by the nurses.

The Nevada State Board of Medical Examiners is also investigating the
situation, as are Metro police and the District Attorney's Office.

I usually side with the nurses when shit happens but this is beyond the pale.
If we've gotten the general facts of the case already, then they need to hang.
OTOH, I've seen plenty of outrageous stuff before that turned out to be bogus.
I guess I'll just wait for the film at 11.

Saw this earlier this week, but didn't post as I don't like to hog every
thing! *LOL*

Nevada SBON says it has good evidence the five nurses reused syringes
and anaesthesia vials. State board has issued subpoenas to "dozens" of
other nurses who worked at this particular clinic and others run by the
same doctor, as it believes they nurses knew of the practice and did not
report. Nevada SBON is also notifying any other states the five nurses
have licenses to practice in of the surrender.

As usual nurses are taking the brunt of things, the physician, Dr.
Dipak Desai has not surrendered his medical license, but rather has
voluntarily ceased practicing until the results of the investigation are
issued.
