Please take a look at some recent METAR reports from Frederick,
Maryland, as acquired from
http://adds.aviationweather.noaa.gov/metars/index.php:

KFDK 190233Z AUTO 27010KT 10SM CLR 04/M06 A2983 RMK AO2 >XXXX>2C
KFDK 190212Z AUTO 27009KT 10SM SCT055 05/M05 A2982 RMK AO2 >XXXX>0D
KFDK 190151Z AUTO 27015G22KT 10SM SCT055 05/M06 A2981 RMK AO2 LTG DSNT
SW >XXXX>35
KFDK 190129Z AUTO 28009G27KT 10SM CLR 04/M06 A2980 RMK AO2 LTG DSNT SW
Quote:
XXXX>14
KFDK 190108Z AUTO 27008KT 10SM CLR 04/M06 A2979 RMK AO2 >XXXX>2B

KFDK 190047Z AUTO 26005KT 10SM CLR 04/M06 A2977 RMK AO2 LTG DSNT SW >XXXX>55

Can anyone explain the remarks (after AO2)? This comes up occasionally
at weather stations when I am checking a METAR report, and I have never
seen any reference to such notation. I contacted someone at the NOAA
and he wrote it off as a glitch. Perhaps it is, but it occurs fairly
often and makes me wonder -

Thanks in advance -

BS
