I am trying to find out if it is possible to synch & phase lock the two
LNB's local ocillators together to receive digital satilite communications.
For example for
one of Direct TV's programming satilites.

Is it impossible, impractical, or to expencive?

Thanks in advance.

Not impossible. But at these frequencies a less than trivial
operation. What are you trying to do anyway? A baseline interferometer
with a satellite? Why not just feed the same local oscillator to two
LNBs? At these frequencies you can adjust phase mechanically.

I guess I'd like to practice my electronics education on something
interesting.

I have Direct TV and want to try something new. To experiment with
something that hopefully is
not too far over my head. I guess I'll need to do some research in the
circuitry of LNB's and see
if I can build a circuit. I'd like to have a 30 meter baseline for two
Direct TV dishes.

I have a 2 meter I can use to reduce rain fade, but thought I'd try
something more difficult.

Thanks for the advice, about controlling both LNB's with the same
oscillator. I believe I can
use the local oscillator from the Direct TV receiver. I need to pass that
signal to both LNB's
but I need to figure out how I can power both LNB's. I'm sure the receiver
can't do that.

thanks again!

Robert
