Hello,
I'm in my mid 20's, I have a law degree and a business undergraduate
degree, and I'd like to get involved in the biotech industry. I have
no clue where to begin, or if it's even possible to get a business job
without more experience or an MBA. Nanotechnology is especially
interesting to me.
Is this even possible? I understand some science, but I don't have a
hard science degree. I'd be willing to work internships, work for
free, probably willing to move... anything, really. I could bring
people coffee...
I just have no idea where to begin... |

Do you happen to be in one of those areas that has a significant
biotech industry? (eg, San Francisco Bay area)
If so, go make some contacts. If you don't know the idea, go read
about informational interviews -- and make use of them.
It is hard to comment much more. It is not clear what you want (you
say biotech at one point, nanotech at another). Even more importantly,
we have no idea how "good" you are. Everyone has specialties, but
there are people who are just great at moving into a new situation and
learning on the job. There are many business and law people available
who have substantial sci background, and that is certainly a plus in
sci business. "understand some science" may be encouraging, but is
vague. That is not a request for you to say more here, but is just the
problem of evaluating you at a distance.
If you can make some contacts in real companies, they can evaluate
you, and also make suggestions. Remember, in many industries, many
jobs are gotten thru personal contact; meeting people is good. And,
yes, sometimes starting by "bringing coffee" is appropriate -- but
preferably if both you and the employer think that is a small step 1.

Hi all, I'm new to the group, but I recently came up this question and
developed an excellent solution for myself.
While I am currently in an entirely different field (computer
security), I am starting back to college in a few days (after about 15
years mind you) to get my Associates of Science degree, after which I
will pursue my Bachelors of Nanotechnology from University of Florida.
It will take me about 7 or 8 years, but I will get there
eventually  . Once I'm in the field, Ill try to get the Masters
degree, |
