I recently came across this devices and am considering it as a "safety net" to
clean my fruits and veggies. Any comments on it's value or is it just wasted money?

Sounds like a really bad idea, because it's based
on ozone. What's wrong with just rinsing your
fruits and vegetables in clean water? You won't
be introducing dangerous free radicals that way.

Quoting from:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ozone#Physiology_of_ozone

Also, when ozone breaks down to dioxygen it gives rise
to oxygen free radicals, which are highly reactive and
capable of damaging many organic molecules. Ozone has
been found to convert cholesterol in the blood stream
to plaque (which causes hardening and narrowing of
arteries).

The "quote" taken from wikipedia is specifically referring to the
ozone generated by our body's white blood cells and is related ONLY to
the physiolgy of naturally produced ozone in the blood stream.

As for the ozone used in the lotus Sanitizing System, it is injected
into the water and while in solution has been proven by independent
lab test to extend the shelf life up to 4 times and the FDA Approved
process neutralizes pesticides and eliminates 99% of E.Coli,
Salmonella, Listeria Giardia, and all bacteria causing foodborne
illnesses that otherwise won't be eliminated by simply rinsing or
washing.

Ozone has been safely and very effectively used in commercial food
processing plants for years. This system simply brings this
technology down to size for use on the counter top.

We have tested this device for stain removal, odor elimination, mildew
removal and I personally use it on all my fruit and vegetables. I
find it exciting to know the pesticides are neutralized and have found
at least 2-3 times increase in shelf life - especially on fruit.

We also find using the ozonated water to initially water fresh cut
flowers actually extends the life of fresh cut flowers and prevents
the water from becoming green and slimy because it kills the bateria
on the stems creating a bacteria and fungus free environment right
from the start.

Bottom line... this is an terrific product as is its competitive
product the CuisineClean which uses the same concept but also spins
adding mechanical washing.
