Which (if having to choose from the two) is more unhealthy for kids?
The diet having the artificial sweetners and chemicals or the regular
which has tons of sugar?

The sugar (HFCS) soda is the most unhealthy because of the added
calories. The phosporic acid in the brown sodas (cola, rootbeer, and
Dr. Pepper) may be a risk for calcium loss, but that risk is currently
unproven. Caffeine is usually much lower than coffee or tea, so one or
two servings a day shouldn't be a big problem for caffeine.

IMHO, it does no good to rationalize that one is OK because the other is

worse. The bottom line is that all of these soda drinks are bad for
health for one reason or another.

Also beware Sodium benzoate in drinks.

The "sugar" in regular soda is high fructose corn syrup, not plain old
sucrose. It is as unhealthy as artificial sweeteners.

Try flavored seltzer water instead. It has the same "pop" and "fizz"
as sodas, but no sweeteners. Or try mixing a little juice in plain
seltzer water.

Yes...I love any kind of carbonated plain water.. and adding some
juice is a great idea to get kids interested!! Now I will have a
GREAT rebuttal! Smile Thanks for all the great insight!

Dr. Gavrilov,

Thank you for that very useful information. It truly helps us to see
other perspectives on subjects like this, especially perspectives
offered by scientists like yourself that actually devote a lifetime
studying human longevity and aging.

Best regards,
Don

What the hell you giving soda, either diet or regular, to kids for?
You ever hear of water? Iced tea (unsweetened)? Juice? I've seen people
put mountain dew on pacifiers! Mountain Dew in the same sentence as
pacifier is an oxymoron! Load the kid up with caffiene and high fructose
corn syrup! "That'll shut'em up!" Some people are really fuckin' stupid.
I've heard some people say to put whiskey on a pacifier too. What?
alcohol to counteract the caffiene? Get the poor kid on a rollercoaster
before they can even speak. Then when they do speak, "Hey there's
something wrong with Johnny, must be ADHD, need to get him on ridalin.
The Jones's kid is on it."
Actually, if I had to choose regular or diet, I would choose the
regular. The question is a choice between high fructose corn syrup and
aspartame. Fructose can be linked to heart disease, but aspatame is an
excitotoxin that has similar effects on the hypothalmus as heroin. The
hypothalmus regulates metabolism and hunger. They both lower metabolism
and cause obesity. Diet soda is a fraud.
As for my kid, water, unsweetened iced tea, and juice. No soda till
she's 36 years old!
