I'm probably the one who said "turfing out". And I did just that - I
lifted her out of the nest box, plonked her on the ground every morning
where she made a few irritated noises, then would pick herself up, feed &
drink, sometimes play in the mud/dirt then go back inside.

Yesterday I turfed her out as usual, then closed the pop hatch & blocked
the nest boxes off. Kept them out of the nest boxes overnight too.

It probably has a differnet meaning in different parts of the world. (I'm
Scottish, living in deepest darkest Devon in England FWIW)

I suspect it has the same meaning to me as to you. My husband was born in
Glasgow and I ferreted him out near Preston...
