Hello.
Hopefully, in another 8 days I'll have one or more chicks (I'm using a
simple RCOM-3 auto turning incubator). I've candled one of the eggs
and there's definately something happening (in a scene from Alien sort
of way)..
The RCOM box turns in an impromptu brooding box and they say use a
'three-wavelength 20w bulb' which on the picture looks like an energy-
saving lightbulb.
I have bought a 20w energy-saving lightbulb but I can't see any
reference to 'Three Wavelength' - any ideas?

I've no idea what a three-wavelength 20w bulb means. Your chicks will need
the equivalent of the warmth of a broody hen body temp, over 100F IIRC. A
20w energy saving lightbulb won't provide this.
I have always used a 250w infra red black emitter lamp suspended over a
large wooden box for my newly hatched incubator chicks. It's made for the
purpose. Look online, they are used for puppies too.
Have a look at this link, although I didn't read it thoroughly it has some
good advice about rearing.
