Hi,
Can somebody tell me why in the rossler sistem using a>0.4 (with b=0.2,

c= 5.7) , Matlab doesn't find the chaotic attractor (that there is)?

I found this problem using Matlab but there is the same problem is in
the article of wikipedia about the rossler system (paragraph 1.5.1
varying a)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/R%C3%B6ssler_Attractor

Can chaos unables Matlab alghoritms for initial value problem?

Thank you,
Fabio

Thank you,

Hello,

I'm not an expert in this field but the simplest answer would be that
there could be certain
procedures in numerical algorithms which check convergence of obtained
solution
(finite element methods), if subsequent results differ substantially
from previous then algorithm stops, because obtained result would be
misleadning. If this is the case some more information can be found in
Numerical Recipies in C (for example
http://library.lanl.gov/numerical/index.html)

That seems very unlikely to me. The most probable explanation would be that
there is an implementation error somewhere in your code. Perhaps the
following post helps:

http://groups.google.com/group/comp.soft-sys.matlab/browse_thread/thread/8e825ad05b5cecd0/

This is a post about the implementation of the Lorenz system, but this
should be easily adaptable to solve for the Rossler system.

Good luck, Maarten

Hi,

Chaotic systems are sometimes sensitive to the initial conditions you
select for the simulation (if there are miltiple attractors in the
phase space). You have to be sure that the intial conditions are in the
attracting basin of the chaotic attractor. However, it is unlikely
Matlab would have problems in simulating you problem, assuming that you
codes are right.

Hope this helps. If you wish, tou may send your codes to my email id,
so that I may offer my suggestions.

Regards
Ankur
