NASA TV is mostly endless loops of video replays of shuttle flights and
space station boredom. What I want to know is whether or not Lisa will be
filtered out or stay in these broadcasts for history's sake? As was
mentioned by a previous poster, the old Soviet Union would airbrush out
rejects as though they never existed. Is NASA flying on a higher plain or
will they resort to Photoshop retouching (airbrushing is so old school)?
If the answer is she's been censored, its a good reminder for all of us.
Government-run news means good news; never bad news. It means no news that
is embarassing to the government which means the government becomes
infalible. It means news you "need to know," not what you want to know,
which really means you need to know nothing.
The news release by NASA was quite mild when you think about it. Harsh
details were discretely missing and her reassignment was stated in the most
gentle terms one could imagine. Nothing like the reality expressed in the
mainstream press.
Recall the screened ramp built to wheel out the prostrate astronaut after
his prolonged stay on board Mir? Whose embarassment was being shielded
from the TV camera, the old bloke's or NASA? |

Any other point aside, it is also folly to confuse "reality" with what
you see/read in the mainstream press.

The lady allegedly did something very bad outside of working hours. Her employer
was not involved in this.
Unless she stole diapers and tools from NASA, NASA has no claims against her.
The lady has not yet been declared guilty of anything. NASA acted properly.
NASA has no reason to get involved in this by making things appear worse.
NASA would be stupid to "airbrush" her out of NASA's history since if some media
outlet noticed it, that would be egg on NASA's face big time.
But it would not surprise me to see NASA pull older programming with a heavy
Nowak content it in. But it would be part of just retiring older programs... |

What screened ramp? NASA's been using that airport people-mover thing
for over ten years.
NASA actually *wants* the long-duration crews to be carried off,
they'd prefer the least stressful return to 1g they can get, so they
can get better data on the changes from microgravity to 1g. That's
one reason they bought the people-mover to replace the old portable
stairs.
Most of them still walk off under the own power... its a pride thing,
I guess.

I doubt there will be any sensoring. Life is life. People get into trouble,
others do not. We are all human.
Remember, back in the old days (leans on old walking stick) there was
naivety over attempting to control information, but now there are so many
ways to get information, the mere act of attempting to control it, causes
news itself, and mistrust of any organisation which attempts it. This is why
what China attempts looks so ludicrous.
