Hello there

I was wondering what was the legal implications of owning a flown tile
from the shuttle? Not one of the gel packaged ones from the KSC store
but a flown scrapped one? I know columbia and Challenger are out but
there seems to be a few of them out and about for sale.

Interesting question. My initial idea, not being an expert, is that it
is not legal but it is "sub juris" or too trivial to bother with.

As far as the implications, wow, unless you want to stand in the middle
of a street and say "I have a shuttle tile" the implications should be
neglible. If you are in Ireland, even better.

Well, I doubt anyone would really care, unless you are going to reverse
engineer the substance and manufacture the stuff for profit, then you might
have the owners of the rights on your back, I imagine!

You ought to be able to do that from the "sample" pieces that have been sold
at the KSC Visitor's Center/Spaceport Disney/whatever it's called these
days.

So what products might benefit from using this material?

Bar-B-Q insulation, device for protecting delicate materials near a weld
site?

tiles have been old on e bay.

nasa should sell flight flown stuff on e bay, rather than landfill it
at KSC.

tiles are supposedly hazardous.
