In recent times, within the past few years, I am experiencing an odd
noise on some client-provided recordings. It almost sounds like a
Space Shuttle communications with Earth, kind of a strange digital-
like sound.

This is not restricted to digital recordings, BTW, as I have also
heard it on audiotape recordings.

Years ago, I can remember receiving tapes from courts that picked up
police broadcasts on the recordings.

I am convinced that the recent digital sounds I am hearing today on
standard audiotapes as well as digital recordings are coming from cell
phones when they ring and/or Blackberry devices that are in use when
the recording is in progress. I never heard these sounds in times
gone by, only in the past few years.

Any thoughts?

I used to have the same thing happen occasionally, and I always assumed
the same. Once I got to listen to an entire drug deal being planned in
the background of my dictation - grrrr!
