We have already done Florida, but I am going to be in Pensacola in two
weeks. Wondering if there is anyone near or anything that I must see
and do.

I am going to Mobile for lunch one day as well.

Stop this, Janice. I would so love to see the U.S. - Take about a year or
two and just see everyplace. I have never been east of Missouri, really,
except for a few trips to Florida, and one trip to NYC. I know that there is
beautiful country and interesting people "back east!" I want to see it!

Now! I have to get back to work!

(Remember the electrician(s) I could never get to come to my house and do a
few things? After about 3-4 months of "I'll be there tomorrow"... HE'S HERE,
climbing around in my attic as I type. I am *so happy* to finally have the
light over my sink fixed, and a new ceiling fixture added to the kitchen.
When he's gone I'm going to turn every one of them on and just enjoy the
light. I'll probably find *dirt* that I couldn't see before! LOL)

I'm not a travel expert on Florida, but I visited my sister while she
was in Pensacola (BIL in Navy) many years ago. The highlight of my
trip was a day we spent going to Destin Beach. A nice drive- maybe 2
hours from Pensacola? It's been a quite a while, but I always
remember Destin's most beautiful shoreline and water.

All I can tell you about Florida is there's a helluva lot of sprint cars
there.

From MY experience, there's a freeway across a bay, a Holiday Inn, an
EDiX training center, and back across the bay.

Okay I just have to reply to this since I'm about 3 hours away from
Pensacola and I lived there in the 80s for 10 years. If you're going
to be there on St. Patty's Day...you absolutely must have dinner or
lunch at McGuire's Irish Pub and be sure to Kiss the Moose. Old Irish
tradition. lol. If access is still available, Fort Pickens has a
great park and walking trails. At the Y just as you come to Pcola
beach, it's to the left...to the right is the beautiful white sand and
blue water of Navarre Beach. Historic downtown Pcola...where they
used to have something like a French Quarter with Rosie O'Grady's and
several other nice little retaurants and shopping areas. Not sure if
all that is still there. Hurricane Ivan just about destroyed the town
in 2004...and the I-10 bridge just recently got repaired to open to
two lanes. It had been down to one lane ever since the hurricane.
I'm thinking, I'm thinking. Oh, lest I forget. Jerry's Drive-In on
Cervantes Street didn't get blown away. Looks like a dive on the
outside but they have the best cheeseburger that I've ever eaten.
Inside is like an old diner with a soda fountain and stools to sit
on. Okay...not sure when the Blue Angels are touring but if they
happen to be in town, they do the greatest air shows on the beach as
well as at the naval museum. If you like that sort of thing, that's
also a great place to visit...out in the Warrington area. Enjoy your
stay!

On to Mobile...moved there from Pcola and also lived there for about 8
years.
There's the battleship...the USS Alabama....right off Jubilee Parkway
before you head into the tunnel. There's a fantastic seafood
restaurant near there on the other side. old rustic
looking ...overlooking the bay. They have scrumptious shrimp
sandwiches and seafood gumbo and the prices are very reasonable.
Rousso's downtown is one of the best 4 star restaurants around. A
little pricey but excellent food. If you have the time, Bellingrath
Gardens is absolutely breathtaking in the springtime when all the
Azalaes are in bloom. You will see the Azalaes all over the city of
Mobile, which is the trademark of the town. Bellingrath is sort of
out from Mobile to the west...actually it's in the Theodore-Dawes Road
area.

and if you happen to go on down to the Mississippi Gulf Coast, I'll
meet you there for a day of gambling at the IP casino. lol.

Dee,

What a nice offer. It would be fun and I am particularly fond of
casinos you know. I won't be there for St. Patrick's day. I will be
eating my own corn beef and cabbage (one of my favorite foods). I
don't know how I could ever find a more beautiful beach than Kathy's
in Belize, but I will enjoy the view for sure.

Glad to see you back posting.

LOL. Kathy - probably tied the guy up to make sure there is nothing else
on the "to-do" list, huh?

Kathy,

Did you think to have him install spots above the elk head? I really
think that would be a nice touch.

He did have to leave to go to the store and buy another light. I almost went
with him, but he left his tools so I knew he'd be back!

Today I had my bathtub refinished. I can't take a shower until Saturday
afternoon! But the tub looks fantastic.

And here I thought you were my friend. I tried to *give* him the elk head,
but it wouldn't fit in his truck.

Geez, there was an option I had not thought of. Rent him a bigger
truck for the rest of the week.
