There are small fluorescent night lights too with plenty of output --
saw them at HD. Made by GE, I think. Should last many thousands of
hours.

I bought a few of those types from Home Depot and they lasted about 1-2
months each and then were kaput.

However www.lowbluelights.com has screw-in amber LED night
lights for less than $6 that should provide plenty of light with no
blue wavelengths. Light/health research now indicates that blue
wavelengths -- even at relatively low levels -- can suppress natural
night time melatonin levels and perhaps reduce sleep quality.

These are for the living rm and kitchen areas anyway, so we don't get
hurt in the pitch dark at night.

What's a GU10?

Mains voltage version of the MR16 style dichroic downlight.

It goes in bayonet-cap style to a ceramic lampholder.
