Hi -

My name is Ralph and along with my wife, Nicole, we are creating a
website as a hobby. This website will be launched in about four months
and will be focused on the newbie (like us) to farming at the home on
a small holding. It will be geared for adults and children. We will be
providing educational information on selected farm animals and ducks
will be featured rather highly.

We are looking for a couple of nice photographs of each breed of farm
duck for this venture. We can't afford to pay for these shots since
this really is a hobby for us. Would anybody be willing to e-mail us
some pics for our website? We would be happy to give credit through an
attribution line such as "Photo Courtesy of [let us know what to put
here]."

The site will be for informational and resource purposes primarily.
However, we will accept a few sponsors and some products for sale to
help support our effort.

If you are willing to help, thank you in advance. You can send
questions or the photos directly to us at ufarmer@earthlink.net As
soon as the site is launched we would send you a link with where your
pic(s) are used on our site.

Best regards,
Ralph and Nicole

P.S.

Photos for the following duck breeds are being sought:

Abacot Ranger
Ancona
Australian Spotted
Aylesbury
Bali
Buff / Orpington
Call
Campbell
Cayuga
Crested
East Indies
Elizabeth
Hook Bills
Magpie
Mallard
Muscovy
Muscovy "Mules"
Overberg
Pekin
Pommeranian
Roen
Runner / Indian Runner
Saxony
Silver Appleyard
Swedish
Welsh Harlequin

If you are really going to be providing information then the best thing is
that you spend time in the next few months to go out and about to places in
your locality to learn more from folks with ducks and then you can take the
pictures yourself. If you are using information from other peoples websites
then you might ask them for permission to use their pictures in exchange for
a direct link to their relevant site.
You are asking people to 'give' you their own work for nothing but you will
be earning money from the site. Therefore its not a hobby but a business.
Even if its only a small business - if you are earning ANY money from
selling products either directly or through affliation then its a
business. - The tax man will certainly think so.
This is not ethical

Good luck with your project

I do stock photography for iStock: www.istockphoto.com
and their prices for photos are very reasonable: about 1$ per pic, or so.
Whatever it is, it certainly isn't a lot of money, and the quality is
very good. I suggest you look there.

Catherine
PS: If you use this link then it takes you directly to my portfolio
(which is mainly wild animals) and you can search for ducks from there.

They are trying the same speil to sites which are clearly marked with
instructions for using images [ie - payment or direct links etc]..
They obviously are not reading the sites or, for some reason, think it does
not apply to them.
To be honest - if they are missing so many images it does not bode well for
their depth of experience or knowledge about the subjects they intend to
write about.
As Catherine has pointed out there are plenty of excellent stock image
resources out there.

Another bimbo site - just what the www needs!

Searching for cat health info urgently, which was just about the first thing I
needed to do when I first got a computer, I quickly learned that you have to (a)
be specific and (b) develop an instinct for avoiding the no-useful-content
sites, the "my cat is called Fluffy he is black and I luv him, here's his
picture" sites. Or the ones that promote loopy bees-in-bonnets with no
practical or scientific basis.... Actually the order above should be reversed -
dingbat sites come up no matter how specific you are!
