"Kolkata - When dozens of chickens went missing from a remote West
Bengal village, everyone blamed the neighbourhood dogs.

But Ajit Ghosh, the owner of the missing chickens, eventually solved
the puzzle when he caught his cow - a sacred animal for the Hindu
family - gobbling up several of them at night."

Wow! I knew pigs would eat them, given the chance, but
they are omnivores. I had no idea that cows would. They
are herbivores. Is this true, do you think?

yes. deer & cattle eat ground nesting birds, not just eggs, &
not "accidentally". they will seek out the nests.

Yes
Its a well known phenomena that many if not all herbivores will actively
seek out animal proteins at times
Cows have been found munching on bones and on horn by stockmen.
They are a valuable source of nutrition -- maybe the subject of the original
article should look to the diet of his "sacred" cow
;)
