The Aquatic Ape theory
The aquatic ape hypothesis of human evolution proposes a novel answer
to some questions about the differences between humans and other
primates: Why do humans walk upright? Why are they relatively
hairless? Why does human sexual behavior differ from most other
primates? Why are humans the only primate to acquire spoken language?
Why are human babies plump and other primates skinny? Sir Alister
Hardy, a marine biologist, proposed that these differences arose due
to a speculated marine phase in human evolution. The assumption is
that at some time in evolution humans were coastal dwelling primates.
The proposition was taken up by the Welsh popular science writer
Elaine Morgan. The theory is largely dismissed by mainstream
anthropologists, who note that many of these features are not unique,
and propose a number of alternative explanations for these
adaptations, most relating to the large human brain or bipedalism.

Only to bother you about this "well-balanced" entry in your favorite

i have always liked wiki, despite your recent post. <grin> some six or so
years ago, i wrote two different articles there... the beginning pieces...
that are now very extensive sites and very well written... nary a trace of
my original remains. (they were not PA related).
point is that a lot of good ideas are in there, and at least give enough
info that a real scientist could follow up on things.
thought i would mention that wiki was on the 6 o'clock news tonight in
the usa... abcnews.com ... not a flattering report....

I would estmate some time between 8mya - 1 mya with a BIG portion of
time around the time the Mediterranean Sea filled in with water, ouch
glup glup, its good I was pre-evolved with gills & webbed feet yo!!
