Now my wife knows what they feel like.

So are you going to tell her that she's no longer an earthquake "virgin"?

Here in Sunnyvale, there was quite a jolt, all of a sudden with no
warning, shove north-east (directly towards US-101) then recoil
south-west, must have been about an inch of motion each way. Also
the lights flickered right after the jolt, as I was feeling a very
slight after-rumbling. The strength here felt like a 4.5 as close
as Monte Vista / Stevens Creek.

I had been listenening to KCEA 89.1 FM, but immediately I switched
on KCBS, and after the current story was finished the very next
item was about the quake. The first report on KCBS said magnitude
4.3 near Lafayette, but just now they said 4.2 about one mile north
of Lafayette. I'm quite surprized that a quake only that strong but
50 miles away would feel so strong here in Sunnyvale. Anyway, this
is the first earthquake I've felt since 2.1 years ago when I moved
from Mountain View. So far the DJ on KCEA hasn't mentionned it, so
apparently the quake wasn't felt at Menlo-Atherton HS. Now the USGS
person (Stephanie Hanna) is live on KCBS, who says it was closer to
Walnut Creek, and still 4.2.

It was a good shaker here. She was impressed and now understands my
description of the Loma Priete ... I was about the same distance from that
one.....
It was felt in Tracy, my wifes kids felt it. It was 16 km deep.

I felt it, southern Peninsula, but I was surprised to see how much hue
and cry the local 11 O'clock news (on every channel mind you) gave to
covering it.

I mean c'mon- it was a 4.x near Lafayette.

Back in '89 I was standing just under the West Oakland BART tracks,
them being elevated and all, and _that_ was a decent ride.

This recent shake was very underwhelming, I felt it, said to myself;
"Oh, earthquake..." and went on with watching a repeat of 'The Black
Donnellys'

I was in San Francisco, having literally just climbed down from putting
the last touches on a set of earthquake restraining straps on a
friend's tall, heavy bookcase. I didn't notice anything (I was walking
into the next room), but my friend commented on the timing. He said the
quake felt like a single sharp jolt; it didn't disturb anything on the
bookshelves.
