I am still reading and researching on the question of drag cutting
etc. For my hypertherm MAX100, the 100A consumables feature a drag
shield. I would like to know if anyone tried using these consumables
at lower amperages to cut thin things like 10 gauge to 1/8" thick
metal.

Don't know for MAX100 @ 100A, but I've done it many times with my Hypertherm
1000 G3 torch and it works just fine.

Don't know for MAX100 @ 100A, but I've done it many times with my Hypertherm
1000 G3 torch and it works just fine.

What amps setting did you use? I will give that a try as soon as I get
the consumables.

What amps setting did you use? I will give that a try as soon as I get

Don't know about Grant but I use full 80 amp power on mine all the
time. As I've stated before plasma is a funny thing. I've run one with
a gauge on the front and power output was proportional to the power
needed for the cut. In other words slower cut needed less power so it
only drew that much. Fast cut more power so the gauge moved.

The more power that is available the faster you can cut. The best
dross free cut tends to happen just at the edge of going to fast.

Oh, I don't know. I just turned it down about halfway, so maybe 30 amps.
