A woman and her donkey in India
members.optusnet.com.au/.../india/india-1.htm
The Times of India reported today that a textbook used in Rajasthan
describes donkeys as better companions than housewives since donkeys are
more loyal and complain less to their masters.
The comparison between the donkeys and women has sparked protests from
the women members of Rajasthan's Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party
government which approved the textbook.
"A donkey is like a housewife ... In fact, the donkey is a shade better,
for while the housewife may sometimes complain and walk off to her
parents' home, you'll never catch the donkey being disloyal to his
master," the newspaper quoted the Hindi-language textbook meant for 14-
year old pupils.
