what about Biofinity contact lenses?
any new information?

what about launching date?

is the contact lens predicted to fit like the Biomedics 55 lenses?

any experience you've had with these lenses?

thanks, Tom.

and, another subject:
about Proclear Compatibles vs Biomedics XC.

both lenses are made from the same material
but, the compatibles' price is almost twice the price of the XC.

I understand that the XC has an aspheric design and is meant to deal
with the proclear's tearing problem.

what's the differences ?
is the Biomedics XC's design\fit like the Biomedics 55 premier's?

From a practitioners perspective, I don't prescribe either. Why would
I, when PureVision, N&D and Oasys are on the market.

Why buy a Hyundai when you can get a Ferrari?

Silicone Hydrogels are safer, healthier and more resistant to
depositing than the XC or Proclear.

once upon a time, Coopervision foolishly tried to distribute proclear
lenses through private doctors only. that cut out retail distribution
like Wal-Mart, Lenscrafters, etc. they thought this approach would
win them the loyalty of the private doctors. then they came to
realize two things. first, many many more contact lenses are sold
through large retailers and if they really wanted to sell a lot of
lenses they needed to open up distribution thru all channels and let
the retail doctors help them sell lenses as well. the second thing
they learned is that when the silicon hydrogel lenses came out, their
so-called loyal allies, the private optometrists, all began to
preferentially push those lenses and leave the proclears behind. so
Coopervision responded by opening up the distribution. Phase one was
to make an essentially equivalent lens to the proclear compatibles and
call them biomedics XC and allow them to be distributed through retail
channels. Phase two was to finally just let ALL of their lenses be
sold through all distribution channels and to quit their little games
by trying to pander to the private doctors.

so to answer your query, yes, biomedics XC is essentially the same as
proclear compatibles, just a lot cheaper. now as to whether they fit
like the biomedics premier i can't comment on that. not enough
experience.

I like to use biomedics XC for patients who have dry eye problems.
when put into a head-to-head test versus silicone hydrogel lenses they
seem to hold their own quite well and they cost a little less. they
don't seem to get as dirty as quickly as acuvue advance and what with
CIBAs inability to manufacture lenses reproducibly they have an
advantage their also. Bausch and Lombs stiff modulus design is
uncomfortable for many people not to mention that they are a little
pricey. I think there truly is a place for the XC/Proclear product
line even amongst the silicone hydrogel product lines.
