Janice and the rest of you who have or are thinking of purchasing one of
these chairs --

My chair started acting up as I mentioned previously. You would sit down
and it would just sink and when you get up it would basically launch you.
Sometimes it would work, and other times it wouldn't. It finally gave out
on me last week and I was soo frustrated and you cannot really switch from a
Herman Miller to a dining room chair :(

Anyway, I called them on Friday and they gave me a number of a dealer in the
area as the people I purchased the chair from are no longer in business.
They just called me back and are sending a repair person to my home this
week to either fix the chair on site or order the necesary parts to do so.
Now, they do not offer replacement chairs <snicker> but they do come to the
house so you do not have to lug that stupid thign all over town.

In the meantime, I just purchased a chair for my DH to use when my chair is
fixed. It is a chair from Home Depot that has built in massagers. He
absolutely loves it, but it makes me kind of nauseous to sit in when the
massage function is on, but it will do until mine is fixed.

I have really really taken this chair for granted. You absolutely do not
appreciate this chair until your behind has to be planted in something else
for any great length of time.

I'm getting mine fixed, but they are charging me (1) because the
company fixing it isn't where I bought it and (2) the chair was bought
used. It's costing me about half the price of a new chair, which is
still better than buying a new one.

So a word of warning - these chairs are under warranty for 12 years.
If you want the warranty to remain in effect, you have to buy it new.
Otherwise, it will cost you to get it repaired.

This past week I have spent yet *another* $150 on *another* chair. My

back is absolutely killing me. So I spent $25 more and ordered a
wheelchair gel pad. No, I didn't get the good one. I got a $25 one.

I wish I could ever scratch up enough money at once to buy a good chair
- I've spent far more than a Herman Miller would have cost, I've just
done it over a period of several years.

I, too, have a bad back (auto accident in 1980). I went through
several chairs--over a period of several years. I must have sat
in every chair every office-supply store had to offer in this
area, as well as department stores. My Herman Miller Aeron is
the only chair I've not been sorry for buying. It's the only
chair I've had that doesn't give me "numb butt" when I have to
sit for marathon typing.

Believe me, I know where you're coming from. I drooled over them
for a couple of years. DH got a bonus from work and took pity on
me and bought me a Herman Miller Aeron. This chair is, without a
doubt, THE very best gift I've ever received.

I'd highly recommend saving those pennies and getting one as soon
as possible. You won't regret it.

oooooooooooooooooooooooooo - as much as I need a new chair I need a new
refrigerator more. The one I am looking at now (have half the $$$) is
a MaytagŪ 25 Cu. Ft. Bottom Freezer Refrigerator with French doors - it
is beautiful! The reason I have half the $$$ is I went into the store
fully expecting to buy a different refrigerator and then saw this
one...oh well...maybe a new chair in March.

Yes, Karen it is definitely worth it's weight in gold. I cannot explain it
in word, but my behind is happy when I'm in that chair :)

Becky, just splurge on the stupid chair. You probably spend more on two
purses than you would on that chair <WEG> It will be the last chair that
you buy for at least 12 years and more than pay for itself.

I agree, Becky. It's worth doing without something else. After all,
with the possible exception of your bed, you probably spend more time
in your chair than anywhere else!

I totally agree. I normally don't advocate credit, but this is
one time I'd highly recommend whipping out that charge card or
taking out a loan.

Margie, I've just about killed my purse habit. I'm carrying one now that
was $60 at J. C. Penney! I do really like it, though, and it's leather.
I did just in the last few minutes buy a used Coach on ebay. That's how
low I've fallen, used stuff. (LOL, just kidding, as it does not bother
me ONE IOTA to buy a used bag.)

I guess I better start up a fund here. I woke up at 4:30 this morning
absolutely convinced that I had a kidney stone because my back hurt so
much. My chair is not two weeks old yet. Sad

Becky,
Just for the record, it wasn't I who mentioned your purse habit. I
didn't remember that you had one -- although I can certainly
understand why you might. I tend to use the same purse for several
years. My sister, OTOH, has a new bag every time I see her -- and I
know she spends several hundred on each one.
