Does anyone have any information about ATSI, Aero Transcription Services,
Inc., out of Baltimore? I really need more work, and this could be a
possibility. E-mail me direct if you prefer not to post.

It's a pretty small community when it comes to transcription and court
reporting services in the D.C. metropolitan area. I have not heard of
Aero Transcription Services.

One thing I always wanted to know about companies in my area when I was
free-lancing, to put it plainly as I can, is WHEN do I get paid.
Without naming names, there are several companies that I would not work
for in the D.C. and Baltimore area. One firm is famous for not paying
when the monies come due, especially to its subs. There is another
firm which is currently stiffing all of its employees and
"free-lancers," as we call them.

If you are looking for non-medical transcription in the D.C. area, I
may be able to provide some leads, but I am not familiar with the
medical transcription world. Having been in this racket for about 30
years, I am very familiar with the court reporting and/or non-medical
transcription companies in my area.

Let me know if you would like for me to provide a couple of prospective
steers. There are, in fact, several that I would recommend. :>)

BTW, I know that in today's transcription world, everything has gone
digital, BUT do you, by any chance, have the capabilities to transcribe
standard audiotape recordings?

The answer to your last question is I do still have a standard transcriber
somewhere in my closet that worked fine the last time I used it. I have
always kept a standard, micro, and mini working transcriber "just in case."

I did a lot of other types of transcribing before I got into the medical
field, and yes, if there is something I can make a decent wage doing I would
be interested. I have never done court reporting, but imagine I could pick
it up pretty quickly. That may sound arrogant to someone who already does
it, but in all honesty, I did pick up medical transcription pretty quickly,
but had a very good mentor I could call on when needed, and I did need her
often enough at first.

I have had a good bit of experience transcribing conferences, executive
meetings, interviews, etc., but none of them paid as well as medical. Since
that was 20 years ago the picture may have changed. But, yes, I need the
money, and would appreciate any recommendations. Doesn't have to be D.C.
area.

I have my own ftp site for digital, but would require compatible software on
the client's computer. I use Filzilla, which is Freeware.

Thanks for the information. Don't worry, I have a lot of questions that
would have to be answered before I would work for a company, but wondered if
someone here might know of them. I would really rather pick up another
local client, but so far the well has been dry. I have been surprised that
a couple of local practices I thought would be good prospects are sending
their transcription to India! I have a good reputation locally, and good
references, and wish I did not have to look for more work, but the cost of
living just really makes it necessary.
