I had implants put in on #3 and #4 today, and they had to scrape some
bone from my jaw and do a sinus lift (where they placed the bone).
Hurt like hell afterwards.
My question is, Why does my throat hurt?

Feels like I have a really bad "sore throat" like when you have a
cold: hurts to swallow.

I asked the dentist afterwards, "Why does my throat hurt?" and he
seemed surprised and said he didn't know why.

The hurting when I swallow is *almost* as bad as the rest of the pain,
which is I guess just from all the pounding with a hammer on my sinus,
and scraping my jawbone with a knife or something, to harvest bone.

So, why the sore throat?

The bone was harvested from my upper right jawbone.

It actually isn't my throat that hurts - though it's a similar
sensation. It hurts when I swallow, but I guess what it is that hurts
is that upper jawbone, that somehow is involved in the process of
swallowing.

No, just local.

I think the soreness when swallowing was from the bone scraping at the
back of my jaw, which they used for bone grafting at my sinus lift.

Thank goodness it got better by the 2nd day of recovery (today), and
now it only hurts a little when I swallow.

I also had pronounced photosensitivity the day after surgery, and I'm
not sure why that happened, either. Not sure if it might be a drug
reaction (tylenol, codeine and amoxicilllin), or if perhaps (my
uneducated theory) that it had something to do with all the pounding
of my jawbone in the sinus lift area, which may have upset the nerves
around my eyes/sinuses.

It was so bad I had to wear sunglesses in the living room, with just
one lamp on.

Luckily, that also passed, the next day (today), and by this night I
am almost back to normal except for a mild pain when swallowing and
very slight photosensitivity and slight headache.
