I'm taking theophyline and singulair for allergies/asthma. Any reason
why I should not take these on the day of the surgery?

As I recall, aspirin is contraindicated.
And I was told to make sure I eat before the surgery. (Why is that?)

When it comes to contraindications, think about "relative" contraindications
(those which could be avoided but OK to take if the benefits outweigh the
risks of taking it) verses "absolute" contraindications (those which should
be avoided entirely).
Most drugs are acceptable to take prior to implant surgery and of those that
are contraindicated, most are "relatively" contraindicated prior to implant
surgery. Although aspirin is a mild blood thinner, it generally does not
need to be stopped prior to any sort of dental surgery. Other more
significant thinners, like coumadin, that maybe a different story. Best to
check with your surgeon about all the medications you are taking.
There is a greater tendency for people to pass out when faced with a
somewhat stressful situation (like dental surgery) on an empty stomach.
Many people will tend to skip breakfast or lunch thinking its better to have
an empty stomach. If they told you to eat something, do it; not to mention
you may not eat a whole lot for the rest of the day after implant surgery.
