About a month ago my lower left jaw started feeling very sore which got
worse over time. Eventually I got an appointment with my dentist and he
recommended a root canal on tooth #19 which had been sensitive for
quite a while but not painful. Getting an endodontist appointment took
another week and during that time the soreness became more localized
under the tooth in question, in addition to feeling sore I also got the
sensation of tingling in that spot. It's a little hard to localize but
it felt like it was coming from somewhere directly underneath the tooth
so me trying to massage the area did not do too much good. I got a
prescription for amoxicillin and within 24 hours all symptoms
disappeared.
The first root canal session with the endodontist revealed tooth #19 to
have an interesting mix of infection, necrotic tissue and healthy
tissue. I stopped taking antibiotics after this first session and
things were reasonably good. About one week after the procedure,
however, the tingling returned. The second session was two days ago and
I am waiting for a crown now. The endodontist said he didn't notice
anything unusual.
Because of the correlation between antibiotics and symptoms I am
wondering whether there might still be an infection in the area. Any
other ideas ? |

"Tingling" is a pretty vague symptom. Esp. if the tooth is tender to
tapping pressure, probably would be a good idea to put a temporary crown
on the tooth and give it a bit more time before making the permanent
crown. I'd avoid particularly placing a post in any of the canals,
which will make re-entering the canal more difficult. As long as the
temp. is well-sealed, you can afford to wait a bit to see if the
symptoms vanish. Otherwise this should be further investigated.
