My son again. Just got himself a 5000 Watt generator and does not want to
mount it on the rear of his super diesel pickup, but is going to mount it
forward on a rack he is building.

Has anybody here done or seen anything like this? Any advice? I'm scared
shitless! (But he's over forty and who listens to a gray beard?)

I would call the police or highway to find out, I would be surprised
if they would approve anything like that. you can call from a payphone
to be anonymous.

We've figured out another way. Sliding rack on the main bed, pulls out with
working area and all that's needed. Everything now safely undercover!

But... if the idea triggered some memory, please share!

A typical 5kw generator is only a couple hundred pounds. I can see
absolutely no issues with mounting on on a properly built cab-over rack
other than convenient access to it.

Why not have your son run the idea by his insurance agent?

With nothing but good intentions. Maybe you should look into help with
letting your son live his own life. Let him make his own decisions and live
with them.

I'm forever grateful that my parents let me 'do it MY way'. There were
times that I'd ask for advice - always given, sometimes heeded, sometimes
not. But, it was and is 'my life'. Wish they were still around, I've got a
couple of things I'd like to run by them. I know their responses, but I
like to hear it.

Mention that the State is building a bridge that is just over the height
of his truck :-)

I'm in oil country and lots of welders doing pipe and rigs. All are
1. across the back of the truck tucked to the window. Flatbed and staked and ...
2. lengthwise on one side or the middle.
3. on the tailgate area.
4. In an array of Generator, and two welders and a gas rig. Big truck! Big Man.

He thought it through and the generator is now tucked tight behind the cab
on a rollout table with the rest of the equipment and welders.

Thanks all!
