I have an Olympus C-3000 Zoom that has suddenly decided not to recognize
any memory cards.

The cards read fine in the computer reader.

I tried all the obvious things like changing batteries, cleaning the
card contacts gently, attempting reformatting the cards. No joy. All the
camera does is display "card error," even if I select reformat on the
menu screen.

R&RTFM hasn't helped either. :)

Are all the card contacts intact? Could be a broken or partially broken
contact that isn't making contact. Outside of that it may not be
economically repairable.

John..its toast. Fortunately..they are available on Ebay for very
little money (relatively speaking)
Single example: 290066786752

They have been averaging about $50-60.

Btw..same one I have, and I love it!

btw...there is a guy offering repair services

Small world! Just a few hours ago my very antiquated Polaroid digital
camera that has been chugging along reliably for several years stopped
recognizing memory cards. It just keeps recycling back to "Reformat
Card?" but it can't reformat the card.

Sorry I don't have an answer for you. My response is that it is a good
excuse to get a more current camera. For all we know, a subroutine in
the mocroprocessor was programmed at the factory to go bad on this
date. Look at the bright side: At least we didn't lose years of work
files.

Apparently this is a pretty common thing with Olympus cameras.

There's a $75 repair service on Ebay. (Thanks, Gunner) or I could take
the big plunge and get a Nikon body that will take all those lenses for
my Nikon film body.

That's a bit of an OUCH! to the pocketbook, but I'd gain versatility.

I couldn't _see_ any broken contacts, but it's a very small opening into
the memory card compartment.

Anyway, thanks again; awright, Gunner and Pete C.

My cellphone some time ago refused to work with its chargers, saying
"Incompatible Charger". All research turned up negative. In desperation I took a
10X loupe and strong light and looked very closely at the contacts. Junk in
there, and one slightly bent. A few seconds with the end of a pin, and all a-tanto.

It might be worth spending a couple of minutes trying to look in there.

John, if you go the Nikon route, make sure you understand which lenses

are compatible with your body. Nikonians has a nice table, I think. Let
me know if you need a better lead.

little new ones.

Ebay # 250067804614 as another example

I never did get the remote control for mine..and the girl fiend has been
asking about some pictures....<EG>

Sumbitch! Thanks, Grant!

I took my LED MiniMag Light this time and looked _way_ down in that
appx. 1/16"- slot through a magnifier and sure enough there was a piece
of something in there.

Operating on the premise that it's broken now and I probably can't make
it worse if I'm careful, I managed to clear whatever the heck it was. It
started working again. Swapped a couple of memory cards in and out and
so far it's POSTed and started up fine several times.

I was kinda reluctant to stick anything in there with my ungainly mitts,
(MS) but it seems to have worked out.

Thanks again Grant and all of you.

Nuts, now I don't have an excuse to buy that Nikon. Dammit!

I checked that and all the "F" mount lenses will work and I have several
AF Nikkor lenses for my 8008 body. Should be fine except I took Grant's
advice and the darn Olympus is fixed now. So I'm down one excuse. :)

If the time ever does come, all of the F mount lenses will mount (I

think), but they won't all meter right. I don't have a collection of
older glass, so I haven't paid much attention to the details.

Thanks.

I took a look at the Nikonusa website. It looks like most of them will
work alright, but I'll look closer if I get really serious about getting
a body.
