We have four chickens in our garden, three in a large coop and one by
herself in a home made coop because she was being bullied by the
others. Now its become permanent but when we let them out they all get
on fine.
However, the lonesome chicken is far from dumb. All we have to do is
leave the back door open for a few minutes and she's in as quick as a
flash. The other day we found her sitting in front of our open fire
all nice and comfortable. Earlier on this week she made several
attempts to get in and eat the cats food.
However, its her fence scaling antics that have put an end to free
roaming. I had made great efforts to secure the garden and vegetable
plot with fences and chicken wire but oh no, she worked out where
there was a gap even I hadn't sapotted, from which she could squeeze
through and then by a series of hops up on various items in the garden
she could top the hedge and fence prior to jumping into the next door
garden. Whats worse is the others have learnt from here.
For the moment free ranging is out - its lock up time now! |

They say it changes when the sun goes down
Over the river going out of town
