All ok here, just wind and rain, but within normal parameters

The area most affected, by the convergence of the tail end of ex-tropical
cyclone Isobel (moving from the tropical north, down into the south of the
state) and the cold weather system coming up from the south, is around the
KALGOORLIE area (approx 400 km / 250 mi due East of here, and ESPERANCE,
which is due south of KAL, right on the south coast (not sure but think it's
about 250 km distance, south of Kal. therefore about 600 km from here in a
diagonal straight line. (if you're lookin' for me on a map look for
"Kellerberrin" postcode 6310. I'm somewhere in that general area

The main part of the wind part of the stormy weather is s'posed to hit
Esperance at 9 pm tonight, Thursday 4 Jan, local time. Rains earlier, have
already washed out some roads in the Kalgoorlie area, and somewhere 700
young sheep died when floodwaters rose before they could get shifted to
higher ground.

Remember that people in Esperance are used to lots of wind, there's a big
wind farm there with big windmills generating mains electricity. Remember
that the whole southwest corner of Western Australia state is the third
windiest (inhabited) place on Earth, including from Geraldton to Esperance
and everywhere in between. Only Chicago Illinois USA and Wellington
NewZealand can beat us in that respect. It's an utter disgrace that the
whole area isn't bristling with windmills !

After 15.5 mm rain in the gauge yesterday at 9 am, there was just 7.5 mm in
my gauge at 8 am today.

I checked the reading a few hours ago (approx 4 pm) , and the near constant
drizzle today added another 3 mm. Walking anywhere the ground feels pretty
darn sodden underfoot. So approx one inch total rain so far, hereabouts.
My annual average is 320 mm or 12 and a half inches, of which 2/3 would
normally fall reliably in the Winter half of the year and the other third,
unreliably, over the Summer half. However that average figure is subject
also to substantial variation from year to year

I'll be away to Perth for the next few days, so don't expect another
progress report from me for awhile.....just because you don't hear from me,
doesn't necessarily mean I've been washed or blown, away !
