Heya I see you say you're from New Zealand

Ah, my old stomping ground, which I miss when it's TOO hot and TOO dry
around here

What part are you from, you say a drier part but that a chook-yard still got
muddy at times of the year

Hi Catherine. I don't envy you the extreme dry that Australia is having this

year.

I'm in Dunedin (Eastern side of the South Island, about 2/3 of the way down, in
the province of Otago for those who aren't familiar with NZ!) but was brought up
in Central Otago (approx mid-way between West and East coasts, S Island)
which is very dry.

It doesn't seem to take much to make an open run nasty. Those little feet pack
the soil rock hard if there's the slightest moisture, then next little bit of
rain doesn't drain away very well so the poop etc makes a horrid smelly muddy
sludge!
