I have seven Ameracuna chickens that we bought as three day old chicks
in late April or early May. It is now the beginning of November and
they have only laid one egg (that was three weeks ago, nothing since
then). The other chickens we bought at the same time (White Rocks and
Delewares) are laying eggs like mad!! Can anyone tell me if this
particular breed are late bloomers? The roosters we bought with the
chicks did seem to develop and begin crowing later than the other
roosters. I would appreciate any information that might help. Thank
you!! |

Well, fall moult has set in. They will probably lay well for you over
this winter, but not next.
Average laying age when I had them was around 6 months or so, but light
cycles are going to mess with them.
If you want more eggs, train them to a henhouse and set a light on a
timer to mimic summer days.

We have 4 Aracaunas that we got the day after they were hatched along with
22 other day-olds last Spring. All of ours started laying around 18-21
weeks, however, I do think the Aracaunas were closer to 21 weeks. I would
think yours would be laying by now. Is it possible that they are laying the
eggs "out of sight"? We found out weeks later that our girls had found a
way to get under the chicken coop and were laying under there. Good luck.
