I have a bunch of chicks that are about 6 and 8 weeks old. The 8 week old
chicks are araucana and cochin bantams, and the 6 week old chicks are
welsummers and marans. The chicks are acting healthy and active, but some of
them have swollen skin around their eyes and the areas look redder than
normal. I know this area turns red with age like the wattles and comb, but I
can't remember what my chicks looked like during this in-between stage back
when I last raised chickens. If it were perfectly symmetrical, I'd probably
not worry about it, but on several, the puffy areas are bigger on one side
of the head than the other. The only area affected is the skin around the
eyes.

Other information: They're eating a standard starter chick feed mash, we
live in the southern half of Georgia, US. The weather has been in the 90s
the past few days, but now rain and relatively low humidity for the area,
and cooler than when the chicks were younger.

Does anyone know if this is something I need to do something about, or just
an awkward effect of chicken puberty?
