Hmm... He didn't really need to use an inverter. There are DC/DC
supplies available for Dell (and other) systems that are much smaller,
lighter, more efficient, and far less noisy in the RF sense.
This is nothing terribly new. I had a fully functional mobile
computer (with a much more readable 12-inch screen, and NEMA-rated
ruggedized keyboard) in our van starting in the summer of 2000,
including GPS and APRS capabilities.
