Good morning all!

Sorry if some of you are reading this and it is not concerned to your area.

I'm a fresh Chemical Enginner, I've finished my graduation 1 year ago and
since then I've been working in Investigation at my former university
(Instituto Superior Técnico, Lisbon), after a final graduation thesis done
in Lehrstuhl für Prozesstechnik in Aachen University, Germany. In Portugal
we are living in hard days and in Chemical Enginnering is difficult to get a
job in industry or investigation. I have some news ideas and lots of
interest to do something different in this area, of my own, but I know it is
difficult to win in the middle of so many losses.

At this time, I'm investigating what can be done and support to do it,
because one of my ideals since long time ago is to do something for my
country and for my area.

I'm asking your help to indicate your ideas, or information on internet or
chemical engineering magazines about new ideas or people who tried to do
something new and their point of view. Inovation is one of the way and any
help os welcome!

I'm waiting for your opinion!

Best regards

This is not uncommon.

You have to decide what direction you want to go in. Do you want a job? Do
you want a job in CE?

You have to do simple things. Look all around you for products and
services provided by companies in your country then contact them. Look in
your newspapers & magazines. Go to your institutions library and look at
journals and periodicals and find names of authors and where they are
working and contact them.

Perhaps you have internet web browser access. Then you can use search
engines and put in "jobs" and "chemical engineering" and start with that.

I don't have any specific ideas for you, but there is a short article
in the 8 August issue of the journal _Science_ on page 760 about a
microbiologist in Mexico who set up a company to develop assays for
the pharmaceutical industry and uses the profits to fund his research
foundation. If your library gets _Science_ you may find the story
inspirational, at least. Good luck.

Susana, I visited the South-West Algarve several times when I was imprisoned
on the muddy isles of the UK. I noticed the wind-energy farms, which were
quite inspiring. The SW of Portugal has both wind and sun (and space!) .
Perhaps you could investigate the solar energy angle - chemistry is required
for solar thermal (e.g. molten salt) plants.

It's very difficult to start your own business in the energy field, but not
impossible.

Best wishes
Roland
