I need to replace a broken capacitor but am unsure what it is. It has an
underlined 47 on it, and that is it. It is a ceramic disc type.

I am guessing a .047uF (which is the same as a 47,000pF?)?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Phillip

It would be helpfull to know the physical dimensions and type of
circuit. It is most likely 47pF is size is around 5mm, but could be
47nF.

Be advised most ceramic capacitors are rated in picofarads, so it is
likely that was a 47pF capacitor.
A goodly number of the small pF caps are brown or light tan in color
and rated at 1KV; approximately 0.25 inches in diameter; no values are
ever underlined.
The majority of the 10nF-99nF capacitors are marked un microfarads: eg
0.01uF, 0.05uF (the closest i have to 47nF).
However, there seems to be at least one exception; i have a 15V 47nF
ceramic that is the same physical size as those 47pF caps with a similar
color.
This particular capacitor does have "473" underlined - note it is the
value in pF - namely 47*10E3 pF.
Perhaps you have something like this.

Rob,

Thanks for the reply. I would say it is about 0.2 to 0.3 inches in
diameter. As to what type of circuit, it is an X10 dimmer switch, 110v.

Thanks again,

Phillip
