try reading through recent issues of the journal of cognition and emotion. you should be able to find something relatively interesting.
then, of course, there's antonio damasio who has written many wonderful books on emotion and how it is interconnected with cognition.
also, there should be lots of brain imaging research involving the amygdala in memory formation (e.g., memory for fearful events).
