I realize that countries with trade imbalances with the US have a
surplus of dollars at hand. Examples of these nations are China,
Japan, and not sure whom else. What are they doing with our dollars?

Nothing! That's why it's going to be a problem for them in the not so
distant future. Basically, they have been exchanging products for what
is probably going to be relatively worthless green paper in the
future.

I'm not sure Alaskan oil counts because for every barrel another country buys
we have to replace it by buying a barrel from a different country. I'm not
really sure of the balance of trade on hookers. Real estate and crops are
certainly true. Also mortgages. Your home mortgage may be ultimately owned by
some guy in Korea. Also, US treasury bonds. Japan has about $9 Trillion of
them. Who do you think finances the govt. debt?

But what if we tax assets as opposed to income? That would
mean that it does not matter who owns all the stuff. Those that
own the bonds will be paying themselves with tax revenue
(actually based on inflaion) and if they own land or whatever
the same would be true.

We, the USA, never sid that we would not change the
tax system. The systemn that is best for Americans is
the system we should use.

They lend them back to us, mostly by buying treasuries. They also buy some
mortgage-backed securities and stock.

They (the Chinese) are very quickly owning US. What will they
do with all the dollars that they do not need to spend on oil?
There is nothing they need that we can sell to them. Every
thing there is a product of land and labor. Labor they have
in great abundance. They will buy the US slowly but
surely as their government enforces thrift on the people
of China. The answer to this problem is found at
http://GreaterVoice.org . It is the only real answer.
An asset tax is the correct way to counter this but the
owners here in the USA will not let it happen. They
will continue to tell whatever lies they might find
necessary to their own benefit and our bought and
paid for "representatives" will help them every step of
the way.
