Matter does not move or interact.
That this is not absurd can be seen by a brief inquiry on matter.
Physical objects that we perceive, define, or construct, are said to have
two components, a component called matter and a component called space. It
is only the spatial component by which physical objects interact, for it is
only the spatial dimension that holds or supports all the fields, the
electrical and gravitational forces etc, that are responsible for force and
movement. So why do we need to consider a material component, and what could
this be, this little nut, this hard kernel called matter that floats in the
softness of space? It clearly plays no part in force or movement. We cannot
demonstrate or define what role matter might play in the behaviour of a
physical object. So, as last resort, we hope that by making magical hand
gestures and peculiar facial contortions we can invoke the idea of
'solidity' to help us in the definition of 'matter'.
The case is simply this: material objects are not physical objects, but
merely stand as names for physical objects, objects whose arbitrary limits
and guides are set by ourselves.
