Hello,

I have a first version ETX-90 and would like to upgrade it to the
newer EC model. I looked throughout to no avail. Could anyone shed a
light sbout how to solve this please?

Thank you,

André Luiz

Meade, like most of the companies that make fork-mounted scopes really
doesn't provide for upgrades, you'd have to sell your scope and buy an
EC model, unless you happen to stumble across an EC mount for sale. It
happens.

What 'first version'. There are a lot of different ETX90 models that

have existed at times. I'd guess you perhaps have an ETX90-RA?. If so,
I'm afraid you will have to forget it. This lacks the Dec motor
completely, and has a totally different drive system. No upgrade is
possible. Parts of this model, are actually more solidly built than on
the EC, or AT models. Your best bet, will be to sell it, and get the
newer unit, if you really must have GoTo.

Best Wishes

The easist way to do this if you like the optical tube is to remove it
completely from the forks and mount it on another goto mount. There are
vaious goto mounts available like the Heq5. I saw a review of a smaller goto
mount in S & T mag recently but can't remember the name.

I bought an Alt-Az Meade go-to mount and mounted the tube, works fine,
don't know about the cost effectiveness, but they are available on
EBay and other venues for $100 or so.
