The Exxon Valdez oil spill was the most devastating environmental disaster
ever to occur at sea. In the Bophal tragedy Union Carbide killed 5000
people with pesticide.
If the Gunns pulp mill is allowed to proceed it will be an ecological
tragedy to rival these acts of corporate terrorism. With 80% of the mills
logs coming from high-conservation value native forest, the mill will gut
Australia's second islands eco-sphere for ever. Add to that the polluting
of Bass Straight with dioxins and furans and the deadly pollution of
100,000 peoples air supply and its obvious, any Australian bank or
government that enables these corporate criminals is acting totally
outside the bounds of modern ethical and legal standards.
