Of course anyone who comes to a sci newsgroup and posts 100
year old outmoded garbage is obviously either a troll or a
true believer. It's the same as if someone were to post that
the Earth is really flat and all modern science is just wrong
about that.
It's high time for us all to understand that it is impossible
to change the mind of a true believer. And trolls just have
more fun when you get aggravated with them and call them names.
Please everybody, stop answering these people directly. It does
no good. Just let them post their Bates garbage - no one with any
sense will listen to them anyway.
sci.med.vision is starting to look like a Bates discussion group.
And we need to turn that around.
I hope all of you will listen to this. |

Hi John,
I am a "Bates believer" like you guys like to call me, yet I don't
think I am a troll.

Ever heard of inertia?

Hmmm...I could use that exact same argument against you and the
believers in conventional ophthalmology. Ever heard of intertia?

I don't paste Bates garbage. If you think I did then I'm sorry.
Click on my profile and you'll see that I'm currently under
construction anyway. lol (sometimes I am lacking sleep because I am a
very busy troll (j/k person))
Also, I'm actually becoming a much more scientifically-minded person.

I will listen to you if you stop calling me a troll. I am a 16-year-
old boy who is taking college classes, and who is usually very
stressed out.
Just to make you happy I'll make an attempt to stop looking like a
troll.
And sorry if my previous posts seemed stupid...I get mood swings
sometimes.
Thanks,
Jason |

Dear Question-asking friends,
Subject: Sci.med.vision -- is an indeed "wide open".
Re: Remarks by Bev, posted each week, "warn" the reader
about this fact.
We have seen blatant adds, a post by an "MI" guy who is
probably nuts -- but no one complained about that.
Some of the "language" that Bates used could be construed
as "misleading". Perhaps.
But I am certain that in his early stage (getting kids to
read their Snellnes) and his objection to the
over-prescribed minus -- were correct as
the second-opinion.
But it is up to the reader to sort though these issues -- and
THINK about them.
If you don't like it -- DON'T READ IT.
Second-opinion best,

Or ... because this is a SCIENCE based newsgroup ... expect to be
asked to provide some ... even SOME ... evidence of what you put forth. |

I don't think either Jason nor me is a troll. In any case, I can't
believe you could ever call Jason a troll. Because, he is one of the
most determined, most ambitious, most creative, most kindest,
sincerest, humblest, friendliest people I have ever met in my life.
And if that's not the total opposite of 'troll' then I don't know what
is!
I don't think either "side" (in this Bates VS Orthodox thing) has
"trolls". There is just people who dislike each other to a very high
extent, because of disagreements that have been reduced into petty ad
hominem arguments (and I'm not blaming one side or the other for that
happening, I take full accountability for whatever part I have played
in it). But at the end of the day, we are all humans, and humans are
bound to conflict with each other, because that is just human nature.
If there was never any conflict, then the world would be boring, don't
you think! But I don't think it's nice to call anybody trolls.
Instead, just say "I disagree with their beliefs, and feel that
responding to their posts is not yielding any real progress, therefore
am deciding not to reply anymore, and also advice anyone else to do
the same" and I will be fine with that.
We would make lots more of accelerated progress if we all shook hands
and become friends, and put our differences aside. I certainly
acknowledge that a huge amount of technological advances have taken
place since Dr. Bates' time, but I don't see how this takes away any
of the value of his Original writings. The genius of Bates will live
on, century after century, even when Robots take over the world and
there are no humans using human eyes at all! But seriously though, the
discoveries he's made and articles he's written are simply timeless
shards of gold. I think that defective vision will never be completely
eliminated from the human race (strain is simply something that will
always exist and can never be entirely vanquished, no matter how
thoroughly you educate and advocate the teachings - even if the rest
methods were spread to each and every corner of the world, it will
still exist, because of inertia (like Jason said) and this
unwillingness to change one's lifestyle for something slightly
different or foreign (seeing one part best, unlearning effort,
practicing relaxation etc), and for that reason the wonderful work of
Bates will never be forgotten on this Earth.
And for that matter, I am sure there will come along someone someday
(probably me and Jason) who finally brings real, scientific Proof,
(RCCTs and whatever, you name it) to allow acceptance of the cure of
imperfect sight into mainstream ophthalmology. As Bates has remarked,
truth and facts always prevail in the end, though in the meantime the
world gropes around in darkness...
Well, I went off on like a million random tangents of thought in this
post, but who cares. I feel GREAT! Now it's only a matter of time
until I reach 20/10! |
