Greetings,
"Open Source" projects/applications are growing in popularity all over the
internet. Linux is the most important of all. The global impact of Linux is
so important that Microsoft considers it as a real threat to the company.
Moreover, there are a large number of other "Open Source" projects that are
been developed right now. For example, SourceForge.net reports today that
they are hosting 66,261 "Open Source" projects in their website.
However, I wonder what "Open Source" projects are been used by the
scientific/research/technological community. Do you use "Open Source"
applications at all? What are those applications? Perhaps, you are working
on the development of an "Open Source" project. Could you tell us about your
project?
This is a list of a few "Open Source" applications that I often use:
- Dev-C++ (Free Integrated Development Environment for the C/C++ Mingw
compiler)
- MiKTeX (Implementation of TeX & Friends for Windows)
- Doxygen (Documentation system for C++, C, Java)
- TeXnicCenter (Integrated development environment (IDE) for developing
LaTeX-documents on Microsoft Windows)
